RUFUS COES STATEMENT

    I moved to Phippsburg, Maine to paint full-time about thirty years ago. Over the course of the next twenty years I exhibited my work at galleries, juried exhibitions and one-man shows throughout the northeast. In the past ten years I have completed a substantial body of oil and watercolor paintings which have not been exhibited publicly. A few active collectors have enabled me to concentrate on painting without the distractions of exhibiting and marketing. My subjects are the places and things I see everyday here in Phippsburg. I prefer ordinary objects and plain natural images to the picturesque.
